Hardcore
Hardcorehouse (previously known as gabberhouse) originally comes from Detroit and is a combination of the harder house varieties. Characteristic of this style are the very fast bass drums (up to and above 260bpm) combined with the shrill baselines and vocal samples. Usually these samples will be pulled from other music or movies.

History of Hardcore

Hardcore Music PhotoIt is very difficult to exactly say when Hardcore came to life. The reason for this is the fact that this style is basically a fusion of a number of different music styles that turned into Hardcore at a later stage. Hardcore is a combination of new beat, acid house, techno and a faster version of techno called Tekno. (popular in the late eighties). Some people claim that the first hardcore record was produced by Mescalinum United working under Planet Core Productions, founded in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) in 1989. When you listen to the record though then it is clear that a lot of other styles are involved as well.

Hardcore became popular in Holland thanks to clubs like Parkzicht and Multigroove. The main Djs performing at these clubs were DJ Paul and DJ Rob.

DJ Paul Elstak founded Rotterdam Records in 1992 and from that moment on the first major hardcore records were produced. Within a very short period Hardcore became popular throughout Western Europe. The followers of this style were always easily recognized by their Australian track suites and shaven heads.

Hardcore peaked from 1995 tot 1997. Towards the end of 1997 the popularity of this style dropped fast which accordingly resulted in foreclosure of a number of labels and nearly all of ID&T’s sub labels. During the following years this style did remain popular with the underground scene. Many of the former followers found their new haven in Hardstyle en Techno.

The main Hardcore substyles are: Oldschool, Early Rave, Early Hardcore, Artcore, Happy Hardcore, Mainstream/Present Hardcore, Darkcore and Speedcore.
